“Food is so heavily connected to memory.” ~Alexandra Guarnaschelli

I was 17-years-old and working as one of the very first employees at the newly opened restaurant, The Grapevine. Living next door I was caught in a daily garlic fog. I loved going to work, bringing people good food, filling their water glasses, fixing mistakes, making them happy, and coming home with an apron that would permeate my apartment with the smell of garlic. The Grapevine was my introduction to many things: Betsy and Sam, warm bread, the boy who would walk me down the isle, tzatziki, a family-like work environment, Greek village salad, stories of a family traveling back and forth to their loved ones in Greece, tiny little bottles of San Pellegrino Limonata, garlic, Live at the Acropolis by Yanni played on repeat… over and over and over and over and…

“Food & Music have the ability to bring back memories I have long forgotten.” ~Krayl Funch

Avgolemono—this was the ‘house soup’ at The Grapevine. I loved this soup. This soup was and is comfort to me. This soup deserves that wonderful round-shaped soup spoon. Life has presented me with many lemons in years past… it’s only now that I’ve decided to collect all those lemons rolling back into my memory and make a little Avgolemono with them. I do hope you all enjoy the soup all those lemons created.
