A favorite returns…and with it, a little story.
The youngest of four girls, I would do just about anything to get a rise out of my sisters or get them to laugh. I would put on dreadful tutus and dance for my grandma just to make her smile. In playing my flute I realized through my playing I could move people… make them smile or make them cry.
As I started making soups I of course had to make large enough quantities so I could share with my friends, my neighbors, and my family…. because it brought me joy to offer comfort and make them happy. A couple years ago I shared soup with friends of ours and the husband said, “Do you make Split Pea? That’s my favorite.” This man who had answered late night calls from us to listen to my child’s lungs, without hesitating. This man who has been a good friend to our family. How could I not make Split Pea for him? So I made the best Split Pea & Ham soup that I could and learned that I too liked it. Thank you, John. This witches’ brew is for you!
